Teachers > Vickie Macarthur
Vickie has been teaching yoga for the past fifteen years and is a Registered Yoga Teacher through Yoga Alliance as well as the International Association of Yoga Therapists. She has taken yoga teacher training at Sheridan College as well as Trinity Yoga Teacher Training and is currently working towards her Yoga Therapy Certificate at Mount Royal University in Calgary. Vickie teaches inspiring classes along with other teachers at her own studio located in the Community of Christ Church and also teaches classes for the Dept. of Kinesiology at the University of Lethbridge. As an ordained Lay Minister in the Community of Christ, Vickie believes that yoga is very much a spiritual practice and is passionate about helping her students integrate the practice of mindfulness into their daily lives as well as creating communities to help support that practice.
In addition to her initial training in yoga, Vickie has completed her Level 1 Certification in Thai Yoga Massage through Lotus Palm School in Montreal as well as her Level 1 Yoga Nidra Teacher Training with Richard Miller and integrates both into her private yoga sessions. She has also completed her Yoga of the Heart training with Nischala Joy Devi as well as Yoga Thrive for Cancer Survivors with Susi Hately-Aldous at the University of Calgary.
"When I began yoga 15 years ago, I had no idea that it would become my lifelong journey and calling. As a busy mother of 2 active teen-age boys, my yoga and meditation practice allows me to respond from a much calmer and centered space (most of the time!). Yoga has taught me to be present and to value the wisdom of the body and the many lessons it holds. As my practice has deepened, so has my awareness of the sacredness of everyday life. My practice has expanded to include so much more than just getting on my mat: a walk in the park, a beautiful sunset, watching my sons skateboard. It is a journey that never ends. As I continue to bring a childlike sense of curiosity to both my yoga practice and life, it becomes wisdom in action, spirit in motion!”
With gratitude to the many incredible teachers who have inspired me on my path: Jennifer Steed, Mary-Jo Fetterley, Kam Thye Chow, Richard Miller, Nischala Joy Devi, Karuna Erickson, and to Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh (Thay) for "awakening my heart". To my husband and life partner, Doug who teaches me what true love and acceptance is, and to my "skateboarder" sons, Brendan and Andrew who teach me how to "really live in the moment".
Peace and Light,
